Went to the new library in Portland and their whole 'staff picks' shelf was just shows from 2015.

I was looking for something new to watch and it felt like a time capsule, so has anyone found a good spot that actually keeps up with recent releases?

Ugh that's so frustrating, I'd be annoyed too. My local spot does the same thing and it drives me nuts, like we're stuck in a streaming time loop. I've had better luck with the staff recs at smaller video rental places, if you can even find one anymore. They usually have someone there who's actually super into new stuff.

Yeah that "streaming time loop" thing is so real. I see it everywhere now, like how every coffee shop suddenly has the same minimalist decor and avocado toast. Or how all those true crime podcasts start to sound the same after a while. It feels like algorithms just keep feeding us the same stuff that already worked, so nothing new ever gets a real chance. Makes everything feel a bit flat and copy-pasted.

You say it makes everything feel flat, but I actually find it comforting. Knowing what to expect from a coffee shop or a podcast saves me time and stress. The algorithms just give people more of what they clearly already enjoy, so it's efficient. If something truly new and good comes along, it will still find an audience. This whole idea that everything is copy pasted just ignores how hard it is to even make stuff that works in the first place.
