I actually prefer rim brakes over disc on my commuter

Everyone's switching to disc brakes but I stuck with rim brakes on my Fuji touring bike, saved me $200 and the pads last me a full year of riding through Seattle rain. Has anyone else gone back to rim brakes after trying disc?

Man I live in Portland and my rim brakes on my old Trek 520 stopped me just fine during that surprise hailstorm last month, got yelled at by some guy in full Rapha gear who said I was "living in the past." My stopping distance was maybe two feet longer than his hydraulic discs, but for the $180 I saved I could buy a whole new wheelset if I wanted, which I don't because my Alesa rims have 8,000 miles on them and still true. Honestly sometimes I think the disc brake hype is just marketing to sell us more parts we don't really need, especially when my LBS mechanic told me he sees more seized calipers on disc bikes in the wet than he does rim brakes that just work.

Your 8,000 mile Alesa rims just convinced me to stick with rim brakes on my next bike.
