Vent: I saw a pitmaster in Memphis using a hair dryer on his ribs

I was at a competition in Memphis last weekend and watched a guy from a team called 'Smoke Kings' pull out a hair dryer to speed up his rib bark. He said it helps set the rub and get that crust faster in humid weather. I've been doing this for years and never seen that trick before. Has anyone else tried something this weird that actually worked?

A hair dryer? Good grief, I've heard it all now. I can't get past the idea of someone firing up a Conair next to their smoker. It sounds like a joke, but I guess if the humidity was bad enough you'd try anything. I just hope he wasn't using the same one his wife uses on her hair.

Honestly, it's genius in a weird way. The heat and airflow would totally fight the humidity. Just gotta keep the hair dryer far away from the salon.
