Warning: I spent $500 on a fancy barber chair that was all looks and no comfort

About two years ago, I got sold on this vintage-style chair with brass footrests and leather that looked amazing in my shop photos. It cost me over five hundred bucks, but after a month, my regulars started complaining their backs hurt during longer cuts. The mechanics were cheap underneath the shiny parts, and the hydraulic lift gave out after six months. I had to replace it with a basic, sturdy model from a real barber supply company. What's the most reliable chair brand you've worked with for all-day comfort?

Ugh, that's the worst! I learned the hard way that the old-school barber supply companies exist for a reason. Their chairs might not win beauty contests, but the build quality is just in a different league for daily use. You can't beat that kind of simple, tough engineering when your back is on the line all day.

My dad's 1970s lawnmower still starts on the first pull every spring. @lilyfisher, you're right about that old-school build quality being a lost art. We traded simple toughness for cheap looks and it never pays off.

Yeah, that "simple, tough engineering" is why my grandpa's toolbox is still solid.
