A regular in my chair in Philly told me his cut was the only thing he looked forward to all month.

He said it with a straight face while I was lining him up. It hit me that this job is about way more than just hair for some people. How do you handle it when a client gets that real with you?

Man, you just listen and keep your hands moving. That quiet focus is sometimes the only safe space they get. Don't try to fix it, just be steady.

Honestly that's heavy. You just hold that space for them. It's not about having the right words, it's about being a steady person in their corner for thirty minutes. A lot of guys don't have anywhere else to say stuff like that out loud. So you listen, you nod, and you give them a good haircut. That quiet time in the chair is its own kind of help.
