That hardware store drip tray saved my tomato plants

Last summer my balcony tomatoes kept getting blight from splashback when I watered. I was at Ace Hardware picking up paint and saw those big metal drip trays for washing machines for $12. I slid one under each pot and the water stopped splashing mud up onto the leaves. Has anyone else tried using appliance trays or something weird to fix a common veggie problem?

Seems like overthinking a simple problem when you could just water more carefully.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. If someone is drowning their basil and then trying to figure out why it's yellowing, maybe a simple fix works. But if you've got plants in different spots getting different amounts of light, just watering carefully doesn't always cut it. I've had some that need a little extra drainage or they just turn into mush. Not sure why this got so heated though, it's just plants.
