How my balcony cucumbers caused a delivery day fright

My balcony cucumbers once scared a delivery guy. He thought the vines were snakes. Awkward moment. Now I prune them weekly. This keeps growth in check and prevents surprises. A simple trim with shears does the trick. It also helps the veggies thrive.

That point about pruning to "prevents surprises" is so true. I found it also stops other issues you don't expect, like pests hiding in the thick leaves. Giving the plants some space lets air move through and cuts down on mold, too. A quick check when you're trimming lets you spot any problems early.

Absolutely, letting air move around makes a huge difference. I had less mold on my tomatoes after thinning them out last year. It really does make the plants stronger overall.
