A gust of wind in my yard last fall showed me why I needed better shed anchors
I was in my backyard in Omaha, watching a storm roll in. A huge gust hit my new 8x10 shed and I saw the whole thing shift about an inch on its gravel base. My buddy, who was helping me, just said 'that's not good'. The next day I went and got four 24-inch ground anchors, one for each corner, and sunk them in with a post driver. It hasn't budged since, even in our spring winds. Has anyone else had to retrofit anchors, and what type did you use?

Ever notice how we only fix things after they almost break?

Why is it that we're all okay living with something that's clearly on its last legs until it actually gives out? @the_gray, that derecho story is exactly the kind of wake-up call most of us need but ignore for way too long. I've got a buddy who kept driving his truck with the check engine light blinking for six months, then acted shocked when the transmission died on the highway. Same thing with my own gutters - I knew they were sagging for two years, but didn't replace them until a storm ripped a section clean off the house.

My old shed in Lincoln took flight during a derecho before I wised up. I used those screw-in dog tie-out anchors, which worked until my whole project became a kite.
