Tried the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail in the same year
The PCT kicked my butt way harder than the AT ever did. Anyone else find the desert stretches way more mentally draining than the green tunnel?

Wait, you mean the desert wasn't your favorite part of carrying a gallon of water for two days straight? Seriously though, the PCT's dry stretches are like hiking on a treadmill in a hair dryer with no end in sight. The AT at least gives you trees to hide behind when you need to sit down and question your life choices. On the PCT you're just out in the open with the sun roasting you and your brain slowly turning into beef jerky.

Fair point but that's exactly why I loved the desert. All that suffering makes the cold beer and shade at the end feel like winning the lottery. The AT's constant tree tunnels just feel like a wet sock that never dries out. Different strokes I guess. Which boring hellscape would you rather crawl through again?
