That $300 ultralight tent I bought almost got me killed on the JMT last August

Everyone raves about those super lightweight backpacking tents. I dropped $300 on one thinking it would make my miles easier. On day 4 near Evolution Valley a surprise storm hit and the thing absolutely collapsed in the wind. I had to hike down to Muir Trail Ranch soaking wet and shivering. Has anyone else had a cheap ultralight shelter fail on them in bad weather?

Did you stake it out with real stakes or just the ones it came with?

Real stakes every time, the ones they give you just bend if the ground is even a little hard. Worth the extra few bucks to not have your tent turning into a kite at 3am.
