My Jaw Dropped When I Saw the Elevation Profile on the JMT

I was planning a John Muir Trail trip for next summer and looking at the data on the PCTA website. Turns out the total elevation gain and loss is over 85,000 feet combined. That's like climbing Everest from sea level three times. Never would have guessed it was that brutal. Anybody else get surprised by a trail's real numbers when they dug into the stats?

Omg yeah, the PCT stats blew my mind too when I actually looked at the total climb.

Right? Like 89k feet of climbing over 2650 miles. That's basically hiking a mountain every single day for five months straight. My knees hurt just thinking about it. Way different than the AT which is just rolling hills by comparison.
