Hot take: Lifting a truck 6 inches is dumb if you actually drive it

Ngl, I spent last Wednesday pulling a lifted F-150 out of a ditch where the owner thought he could bomb through a muddy field like a monster truck. The lift kit looked cool sitting in my shop parking lot, but it ruined the suspension geometry and he ended up paying me $450 to fix ball joints and tie rods on top of the recovery fee. Honestly, a 2 inch leveling kit with good tires would have gotten him through that same mud without breaking anything. People mod for looks over function and then blame the truck when it fails. Has anyone else seen a wild lift job that actually made things worse on the trail?

Lift kits usually don't ruin geometry if you get the right brackets, but cheap ones definitely do.

I'm gonna push back on "definitely do" because honestly, I think it's way overblown for most people. Like, unless you're trying to set lap records or something, a cheap lift isn't going to make your truck fall apart tomorrow. I've seen guys run those spacer lifts for years without issues, just a bit rougher ride maybe. The whole "ruins geometry" thing feels like something you hear from guys who spent too much on a fancy system and need to justify it.
