Hit 5000 miles on a set of brake pads I installed and they're still over half left

Put these on a regular customer's Honda Accord about two years back. Just did the annual check and the wear is way less than I figured. It hit me that I've been over-torquing caliper slide pins for years, causing drag and eating pads. Started using a simple inch pound wrench set to spec, not just cranking them down. Has anyone else seen a big jump in pad life after fixing a small step like that?

My old shop used to burn through pads before we checked the slide pin torque.

Man, that is so real. I mean, we had the exact same thing happen at a place I worked. They'd just slap the caliper back on and send it, no torque wrench in sight. It's crazy how something so simple can wreck a set of pads in no time. You don't even realize it until you're doing the same job again way too soon.
