My brother told me 'asking anything' is just permission to be annoying

We were talking about this forum last week. He said the whole point of a place like this is that there are no stupid questions, but people use it as an excuse to not google basic stuff first. He thinks it makes the whole thing pointless. I always thought the opposite, that it was about getting real answers from real people. Now I'm not sure. Is the whole idea just enabling laziness, or is it actually useful?

My brother said something similar last week, that forums just become a crutch. But where do you draw the line between a lazy question and someone just wanting a human take on it?

My friend asked a dumb forum question last week and evah40 is right, it was just pure laziness lol.

Your brother has a point about people being lazy. Google exists for basic facts, not for holding everyone's hand through simple searches. Forums get clogged with questions a five-second search could solve.
