That $400 genealogy subscription box was a TOTAL letdown

I signed up for that Heritage Discovery Club thing back in March. Paid $400 for a year of their premium service. They promised access to international military records and one on one archivist help. After 6 months I've found ZERO new documents on my family tree that I didn't already dig up for free on FamilySearch. The archivist answered maybe 3 of my 12 emails. Anyone else waste cash on these commercial genealogy sites that just repackage what's free elsewhere?

Oh man, I feel your pain. I did the exact same thing with a different company last year, paid almost $500 for their "exclusive" world records access. Total garbage. Everything they found was stuff I already had from the free LDS sites and basic Google searches. It's like they just scrape the same public databases and slap a fancy logo on it. The "expert" researcher they assigned me took three weeks to reply to each email and then just sent me a link to a free census website. Made me feel like an idiot for falling for the slick ads. Lesson learned, I just stick to the free stuff now and dig through local library archives for anything real.

Start digging through your local library's genealogy section or state archives. They often have actual exclusive stuff like old county histories and land grants that never make it online.
