Had to choose between a full dig and just a surface survey on a site in Nevada. Picked the survey.

I used to be all about full digs, thought surveys were a waste of time. Then a crew in the Mojave did a surface survey and found over 200 lithic scatters in one week. It completely changed how they planned the whole project. Now I see a good survey can give you the full picture before you even break ground. You can focus your time and money on the spots that actually matter. Smart call.

Wow, so you had to actually see it work before you believed it? Classic. Guess some of us need a whole week in the desert to figure out what a map could've told you. But hey, at least you got there eventually, right?
