My climbing rope got a kink that almost sent me falling

Last Thursday up in Portland, I had a brand new rope twist up on me during a removal. I didn't check it before hanging my saddle, and that kink made the rope bind halfway down a 60 foot pine. Has anyone else dealt with rope memory issues on fresh lines?

I read somewhere that rope memory is worse when the rope is stored coiled too tight or left in the sun. That kink thing sounds sketchy, especially on a new line where you'd expect it to feed clean. Maybe try flaking it out in the yard before you climb next time.

That rope memory thing is real, it's a pain when you expect a fresh line to just feed smooth and it fights you the whole way. Hope you get it sorted out before the next climb.
