PSA: My cousin's dishwasher idea with foil went totally wrong
He covered the rack with aluminum foil thinking it would help with stains, but it messed up the heating part. I spent all afternoon fixing the damage. What's the silliest home fix someone has asked you about?

So what's the deal with the toothpaste thing, like what was your friend even trying to cover? @elliots23 mentioned it turning moldy and that's just nasty. I've heard of people using it on small nail holes, but it seems like such a weird gamble. It's not made for walls, it's made to go in your mouth, so of course it gets gross. It makes you wonder what other weird household items people are smearing on their walls instead of just buying a five dollar tub of spackle.

That foil thing is such a common bad idea. It can block the spinning water jets and, worse, little pieces can break off and short out the heating element at the bottom of the machine. It's right up there with the "fix" of using toothpaste to fill holes in a wall. I had a friend try that before painting, and it just turned into a sticky, moldy mess a few months later. Some shortcuts just cost more in the end.
