Overheard at a parts counter that changed my dryer vent game

I was grabbing a new thermal fuse at my local FixIt Supply in Phoenix and some old timer was telling the counter guy he never uses those cheap foil transition ducts. He said they trap lint like crazy and the rigid metal is worth the extra 15 minutes to install. Anyone else switched to semi-rigid or metal and notice fewer callbacks on dryers?

That old timer knew what he was talking about. I made the switch to rigid metal a few years back after I pulled out a foil tube that looked like it had a lint sweater on the inside. My first attempt at installing the rigid stuff was a comedy of errors - I measured wrong, cut it too short, and had to patch it with duct tape like a fool. But once I got it right, my dryer started drying in one cycle instead of two. Now I tell folks the same thing, though I usually add "don't be me, measure twice and cut once.

Did your setup end up being a pain to get lined up right with the wall? My buddy tried the same swap and ended up having to cut a notch in his drywall because he didn't measure the actual space behind the dryer first. He said the rigid pipe was like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, except with more cussing and a trip to the hardware store. He's a convert now though, swears his clothes come out of the dryer actually dry instead of just warm and damp.
