Hot take: hitting 500 calls for the same dryer model changed my mind about 'common knowledge'

Honestly, I always heard the 7-series Whirlpool dryer belt was the main failure point. After my 500th call on that exact model, I tracked it and 70% were actually the idler pulley seizing, not the belt itself. It mattered because I was stocking way more belts than I needed and missing the real fix. Anyone else find the standard advice for a common job is just plain wrong sometimes?

My shop had the same blind spot with Samsung ice makers. We blamed the mold heater for every no-ice call. After a year of data, over half were actually the fill cup cracking. Changed our whole parts order.

Totally saw that with the fill cups. We wasted so many mold heaters before catching on. Now we check the cup first every single time.
