A darkroom vet told me to stop agitating my developer so aggressively after I got weird streaks on 3 rolls of Tri-X in a row
I was doing this frantic 5-second agitation every 30 seconds like some YouTube tutorial showed, and he said just rock the tank gently twice and leave it alone, now my negatives are clean as glass has anyone else got bad advice from online guides that set you back?

Frantic 5 second agitation sounds like you were trying to shake the emulsions right off the film.

Haha "shake the emulsions right off the film" that's exactly what it felt like. I did the same thing a few years back with a roll of Tri-X and thought I was being smart by really going at it hard for those first few seconds. Ended up with streaks and weird density patches all over the negatives that looked like water damage. Had to completely trash that roll because every shot had these strange clear lines running through them. Now I stick to slow gentle inversions for the full minute and it makes a world of difference. Have you ever had a roll get totally wrecked by over-agitation?
