I spent last weekend drafting a version where Watney gets rescued but the public never finds out, and another where he gives a live TV interview from Mars after the rescue. The second one felt way more real because it showed the human side, not just the science fix. Anyone got a better alt ending for a survival story?

That live TV interview idea is good. My own alt ending skills are so bad I tried to rewrite the end of Cast Away once and just had Wilson wash up on another beach. He started a support group for lost sports equipment.
