After hating on 'The Village' for years, I finally played a board game adaptation that made me see the twist differently.
My buddy brought over the Secret Identity game where everyone hides their role, and after 3 rounds of watching people bluff about their own village secrets, I realized the movie's ending was actually setting up a theme about hiding the truth from yourself, not just the audience, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has changed their mind on a movie ending after playing a game that uses the same mechanic.

Wait, you played 3 whole rounds of Secret Identity in one sitting? My brain would've melted after round 2, that game gets intense fast. The way people have to double bluff about their own hidden role while faking someone else's secret sounds exactly like the movie's twist with Bryce Dallas Howard's character. I never connected that the whole "lying to protect a fantasy" mechanic could apply to the audience's own expectations until you broke it down like that.
