I finally bought a decent cable toner instead of the cheap one

Spent $180 on a Klein Tools VDV500-820 after frying my third $30 unit on a commercial job. Thing paid for itself day one when I found a break in a buried trunk line in under 10 minutes instead of an hour. Anybody else shell out for pricier test gear and wonder why they waited so long?

Dang, nothing beats that feeling when the expensive tool earns its keep right away lol.

Ha! Good for you @zara_miller, tools that PAY for themselves RIGHT AWAY are the best feeling. But I gotta gently point out that "fried" is a bit strong for a cable toner - they usually just pop a fuse or the wire clip breaks before the whole unit goes. Still, dropping $180 beats replacing three $30 units and losing billable hours.
