DAE have a panel keypad die mid-install and get stuck waiting on a replacement?
Friday afternoon I was finishing a 12-zone panel upgrade in a house out in Aurora when the main keypad went dead on me. No display, no beeps, nothing, even after I checked the bus voltage and reseated the connector twice. I swapped in a spare I keep in the van and it fired right up, so it was the keypad itself and not my wiring. Now the supply house says the replacement is 5 to 7 days out and the homeowner wants the system armed before the weekend. How do you all handle a dead keypad when you can't get a swap same day?
Man, that loaner idea is the way to go, take it even further and keep a cheap base keypad in the van just for temp hookups like this. That way you can get the system armed and the homeowner happy while the real one ships. A spare on the truck pays for itself the first time a keypad drops dead on a Friday.
