inThree years back at the regional hangar, a new guy argued we should skip the full engine run after a magneto change
Doubt that's a real problem these days. Most mag swaps are pretty straightforward, seems like extra work for almost no gain.

inAppreciation post: I used to set all my posts in concrete without a gravel base...
Yeah, that clay turns into soup. Learned the hard way myself (always dig down and toss in some crushed rock now).

inHad a stuck shutter curtain on an old Pentax K1000 that wouldn't budge
My buddy in Portland fixed his dad's old Canonet the same way last year. He used a single drop of Ronsonol on the metal hinge, not the cloth. That camera is still clicking along just fine on its original shutter.

inI was sure that 'room temp eggs' for cakes was just baking snobbery until my chocolate cake came out dense as a brick for the third time in a row.
My stubbornness with cold butter cost me a stand mixer paddle. The gear sheared clean off trying to cream a lump straight from the fridge. I now plan my baking around letting that brick soften on the counter.

inWe used to run the cutterhead at full tilt all day on the Mississippi, but after a pump clog that cost us 12 hours of downtime, I now check the suction screen every 2 hours.
Remember when my uncle tried to automate his sprinklers and just set the timer once. Came back from vacation to a flooded basement because a pipe cracked on day two. Sometimes the system needs a quick look.
