My invoice template broke after 40 clients and it took me 3 days to fix, because I never backed up the original file and the spreadsheet formulas kept pulling the wrong tax rate, has anyone else had a simple system fail at the worst possible time?

Lost my whole client list once when a hard drive died. Had to re-add everyone from memory and old emails. Now I backup everything every Sunday like my life depends on it.

and honestly that tax rate thing is brutal because the numbers look fine until they really really dont. I learned the hard way to keep a plain text version of my invoice formulas saved somewhere, just the logic written out step by step, so if the spreadsheet glitches again I can rebuild it from scratch instead of guessing what went wrong. Also, I started testing my template with fake client data every few months, like throw in 50 dummy rows and see if the math still holds, because stuff breaks quietly when you hit certain row counts or add new line items. Another thing that saved me once was keeping an old copy of the file from before I added the latest tweak, so I can just roll back instead of fighting the broken version for days. Sorry you went through that, but now you know the exact weak spots, so next time it takes an hour not three days.
