My road trip to catch an indie band ended with a flat tire and a polka cover disaster
I was driving to see my favorite indie band play in a small city last month. My car got a flat tire in this one-horse town, and while waiting for help, I wandered into a bar where a polka band was covering indie hits, badly. Has anyone else found a bizarre music spot while on the road?
Got stuck in a diner outside Toledo once, they had a jukebox with nothing but sea shanty remixes... my tip is to always chat up the bartender, they usually know the best weird spots in town when you're stranded.
Nah, polka covers of indie hits sound awesome to me. I'd probably stay for the whole set, bad or not, lol. Makes for a better story than just another indie show.
Honestly, you're so right. The sheer chaos of a polka version of a Strokes song or something is its own kind of art. Even if it's a total train wreck, you're gonna remember that night way more than some forgettable opening band. I'd stick around too, just for the story.
