I mean, it was just pine trees and quiet water back then, but now there's picnic tables and crowds, maybe it's just me but it doesn't feel special anymore.

Ugh, that's such a gut punch when a quiet spot gets built up. I totally get why it feels less special now. @the_barbara has the right idea with those old maps, I've spent whole weekends just driving around looking for that same kind of quiet they ruined.

Yeah that's a familiar feeling. What worked for me was using old topo maps to find a new, smaller lake in the same general area. Took a couple scouting trips down forest service roads to find one that was still quiet.
