PSA: I gave up on planned itineraries after a wrong turn led me to a cliffside noodle shack

Now I just wander without a schedule and that's how I found myself eating the best ramen of my life while watching goats graze below, lmao.

Ever think about all the weird, perfect stuff you'd miss if you stuck to a plan? Like last year I ended up at some guy's backyard BBQ in Portugal because I took a bus to the wrong town, and it was honestly the best chicken I've ever had. You'd never find that place on a map or a travel blog. It's the getting lost that gets you the good stories, not the checklist of must-see spots. A rigid schedule just gives you the same photos everyone else has.

Seriously, that's the only way to travel now... my best memory from Japan was getting completely lost in Kyoto's back streets and stumbling on this tiny temple with an old man just giving out sweet rice cakes. @lewis.thea is right about the Portugal thing too, those unplanned moments just stick with you. I'd trade every fancy guided tour for one more afternoon like that, just letting a place happen to you. The photos from those days are blurry and weird but they're the ones I actually look at.
