Vent: Figuring out a stuck track pin on a cold morning

Back in the nineties, we didn't have fancy heating tools on site. I ended up using a torch carefully and some penetrating oil from the truck's kit. It's a messy fix, but it got the machine moving again.

Oh man, that sounds so stressful! I totally get the worry about starting a bigger problem, like @burns.patricia said, those cold morning fixes were a real adventure. You just had to work with what you had in the truck back then. It's wild how much safer and easier the tools are now, but sometimes you just needed the machine moving right then.

Ever think those old fixes were more dangerous than clever? Watching someone swing a torch near hydraulic lines always made me nervous, even with oil. I've seen too many burned hoses and small fires from that method. Today's infrared heaters or even a good heat gun seem way safer for the machine and the person doing the work. Don't you worry about starting something bigger than you can handle?

Cold mornings always made our jury-rigged fixes way more interesting.
