Morning stretch debates are splitting our site crew.

On my current job site, half the operators swear by a full body stretch before hitting the controls. The other half says it's a waste of time and that being alert is more key. What's your take on pre-shift routines for avoiding aches?

My own flexibility is a joke, so I'm no expert. But watching guys jump straight from their truck into a twelve hour pour is a sure way to see someone moving like a tin man by lunch. A couple minutes of arm circles or leg swings seems to help, mostly to shake off the drive over. Full yoga routine might be overkill though.

Yeah no, I feel that in my bones. I mean, my back gets tight just thinking about it. Idk how some guys do it, just go zero to a hundred like that. Maybe it's just me but even a quick stretch makes the whole day less of a fight.

Look at it as waking up the muscles, not just stretching them. A few dynamic moves get blood flowing and tell your body work is starting. That's why those arm circles actually help more than holding a static stretch cold.
