Envelope lining is a trend we should quietly retire

I've swapped letters with about 30 people this year and every third envelope has some fussy patterned liner inside. It adds bulk, makes the flap stiff, and honestly it does nothing for the person who has to wrestle the letter out. I get that it looks pretty in photos, but the actual mailing experience suffers. My local post office in Akron has rejected two of my lined envelopes because the adhesive didn't hold the flap down with extra layers. If you want to dress up a letter, spend that effort on the paper quality or the ink color instead. Anyone else had liner-related mailing problems, or am I the only one who thinks these are a hassle?

I ruined a three page letter last month because the liner glued itself to the paper and I ripped the whole thing trying to free it. The sender meant well, but I spent more time picking tiny floral scraps off my words than actually reading them. Maybe pretty is overrated when a letter ends up looking like a craft project gone wrong, right?
