Shoutout to the spring that launched itself into my ceiling fan

I was reassembling a 1911 mainspring housing last night and the cap slipped, sending the spring flying into the spinning fan blade with a loud 'ping'. Anyone have a good method for keeping that cap in place during assembly?

Lost a spring in the couch once... never found it.

I read somewhere, @barbara_sanchez88, that lost couch springs often slip into the lining.

That lining theory never worked for me. My old couch had a tear in the bottom fabric, and I could see right in. Those springs are heavy and don't just float away. They get wedged deep in the frame, tangled up with other springs. You'd have to take the whole thing apart to find it, which isn't worth the trouble. Sometimes things are just gone for good.
