Appreciation post: My old orbital sander finally gave up the ghost mid-project

I was working on a maple tabletop yesterday when the motor just seized with a loud pop and a puff of smoke. I had to run to the hardware store for a replacement, which set me back about $150. What's a reliable brand for a sander that can handle daily shop use?

Smoke and a pop? Sounds like a proper sendoff. Daily use is a big ask for most home shop gear.

Daily use is tough, but I got years out of a cheap bench grinder by just cleaning and oiling it.
