I was sure that new project management software was a total waste of $40 a month
I mean, I'd been using free notes and a calendar for years, so paying felt dumb. But after a month, I realized it saved me from missing two deadlines because the automatic reminders actually worked. It also helped me track how long a logo design really took, which was way longer than I guessed. Now I can give clients better quotes. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that ended up being super important?

My cheap game changer was a password manager. I argued for ages that writing them down in a notebook was fine, until I got locked out of a client portal right before a big deadline. The two bucks a month feels silly, but not having to reset passwords or dig through scribbles has saved me so much quiet panic. It's one of those things you don't miss until it's working in the background.

Hard disagree with @emery_hall, my notebook has never failed me.
