Can we talk about the time I said yes to a project way outside my skillset?

Doesn't this happen all the time now? It feels like every job posting wants you to be an expert in ten different things at once. So people just say yes and hope they can figure it out fast enough. It sets everyone up to feel like they're barely keeping their head above water. I see it with friends in totally different fields too, not just my own. The whole work culture pushes this idea that you should always be in over your head.

Oh man, does this hit home! I totally get what @pat_park52 means about the frantic tutorials and coffee. I've been there, saying yes to something just because I was afraid to look like I couldn't handle it. It creates so much stress trying to fake it until you make it. Jade240 is right, it feels like the normal way to work now and it's exhausting. You just end up feeling like a fraud the whole time.

I once agreed to build a custom database when my skills stopped at basic Excel spreadsheets. Spent three weeks watching frantic tutorial videos and drinking way too much coffee. The final product was a mess of duct tape and hope that somehow passed inspection. I learned to check the manual before saying yes to the engine rebuild.
