Overheard a foreman say 'just pour it' when the temp was borderline
I was grabbing a coffee yesterday and heard a supervisor from the next bay tell his crew to go ahead with a pour even though their pyrometer read 50 degrees under spec. He said, 'It's close enough, the heat will carry it.' That's a fast track to cold shuts and a failed casting. It made me realize how much pressure to keep moving can override basic safety. Has anyone else had to push back on a rush order like that recently?

Our specs have a 40 degree safety buffer for that exact reason.

My buddy had a similar thing happen last week. They were pouring a big gear blank and the metal was reading cold. The lead told them to add more heat time, but the shift boss overruled him to keep on schedule. They poured it anyway and ended up with a massive cold lap right through the center. Whole thing was scrap.
