My grandma's recipe card for 'Sunday Gravy' called for a $25 bottle of wine nobody makes anymore.
I spent two hours hunting for that specific vintage online and finally paid $40 with shipping, only for the sauce to taste exactly like my regular one with cheap stuff. Has anyone else run into a family recipe with impossible-to-find ingredients that don't even matter?

My friend did that with some fancy olive oil once.

Read this article about how some olive oils aren't what they say on the label. They found bottles claiming to be extra virgin that had cheaper oils mixed in. It made me check my own bottle at home, and now I'm way more picky about where I buy it. That fancy oil might not have been so fancy after all.

Used to think that whole olive oil scandal thing was overblown honestly. Saw it as just food snobs being dramatic about their expensive oils lol. But then I actually read up on it and realized they're literally selling you fake product sometimes. Mixed with cheaper oils and still charging extra virgin prices. That's not about taste anymore, that's just straight up fraud. So yeah I'm with you now, gotta be careful where you buy it.
