My grandma's recipe binder was a $75 gamble at an estate sale, but the debate is whether these old dishes are worth the effort to revive or just nostalgic clutter.

I found her famous 'Sunday Brisket' that takes 8 hours and uses ingredients you can't even find anymore, but my cousin says it's a waste of time compared to modern recipes.

Try making the brisket once as written, then compare it to your usual recipe. You might find the old methods add a flavor you can't get now, or you might confirm your cousin is right. Those hard-to-find ingredients often have common substitutes that work fine. What's the one weird ingredient that's stopping you?

Ever think you have to follow a recipe exactly? I used to get stuck on weird spices until I tried what lopez.mason said and just swapped them. The dish still turned out great and now I'm way less stressed about cooking.
