Just saw a huge change in my hydrangeas after switching from tap to rain water

The blooms went from pale and small to deep blue and huge in about six weeks. My tap water is super hard, so the pH was off. Anyone else in a hard water area find a good fix for this?

My tap water is basically liquid rock, it was killing my hydrangeas. I started collecting rainwater in a big barrel, but when that runs dry I use filtered water from my fridge. It made a huge difference, the color is way more vibrant now. You can also try adding garden sulfur to the soil to help lower the pH over time.

Ever think about how much water your fridge filter wastes to make that clean gallon? Mine makes a whole bunch of dirty water for every bit of filtered stuff. Feels wrong pouring it down the drain when the plants are thirsty. I started running that waste line into a bucket for my less picky plants. It's still way softer than tap, so it works for my hydrangeas in a pinch.
