Blew $300 on a "pro-grade" moisture meter that gave me fake readings on a job last week

Had to rip up 200 square feet of engineered hardwood because I trusted the thing instead of double-checking with a calcium chloride test, has anyone else had a meter flat out lie to them?

My buddy Mark had that happen with a $400 pinless meter last spring. He was checking moisture in a subfloor before laying vinyl plank, and the meter kept showing 8% across the whole room. He went ahead and glued everything down, only to have the flooring buckle three weeks later. When he pulled it up and did a calcium chloride test, it came back at 18% moisture. The meter was reading fine on dry wood in his shop, but it totally missed the high spots in that real job. He still keeps that meter but now he always verifies with a pin probe first.

Nelson, is carpet really that serious when you got kids and pets anyway?
