Can we talk about how people treat their film after a shoot?

I used to just toss my exposed rolls in a drawer for months, but seeing the color shift in a roll of Portra 400 I left in my hot car for a weekend convinced me that temperature control from shot to development is way more important than I gave it credit for, so how do you all store your shot film before you can develop it?

Is it really that big of a deal? I've left film in my car for weeks and never saw a problem. People act like it's a science project, but it's just plastic and chemicals. A little heat won't ruin everything.

Oh man, @michael_baker, you're tempting fate! I learned the hard way after leaving a roll in my glove box last summer. Got back photos that looked like they were taken through foggy soup. Guess my car was just a cheap, slow cooker for film. Maybe you've just gotten lucky, or your car's AC is way better than mine.
