TIL a warm towel trick for a stuck sauerkraut ferment
My last batch of kraut just wouldn't bubble after 4 days, and my kitchen in Portland is pretty cold. I wrapped the jar in a hand towel soaked in warm water from the tap, like you'd do for a sore muscle. Swapped it out twice a day, and by the next morning, it was finally active. Has anyone else had to jump-start a slow ferment like this when the temps drop?

I always thought you just had to wait, but that's a game changer.

That's a clever fix for a chilly kitchen. My own fermenting fails are usually due to me checking it too often, like a kid poking a cake in the oven. The warm towel trick sounds way smarter than my usual method of just glaring at the jar.
