Overheard a homeowner say my string line was crooked from 50 feet away
Dude was a retired carpenter apparently, called it from his deck while I was setting posts for a 200-foot red cedar run last Tuesday. Has anyone else had a stranger spot something before you caught it yourself?

Funny how that happens, but honestly I think carpenters have a different kind of eyesight than the rest of us. They can spot a 1/16 inch gap in a fence from across a parking lot. I wonder if your string was actually straight but the way the light was hitting it made it look off to him, like an optical illusion. That happens more than people realize with long runs in direct sun.

Hold up, are we really acting like a 1/16 inch gap is something a normal person can spot from across a parking lot? That seems like a stretch to me. Most of the time if someone is that picky about a fence it's just them being a control freak, not some special carpenter vision. And blaming the sun for a crooked string line just sounds like an excuse for messing up the measurement.
