A woman at a bus stop in Denver told me her coat was made from recycled tent fabric
She said her friend sewed it, and the idea of using such durable, weatherproof material for streetwear really stuck with me. Has anyone else tried designing with unconventional technical fabrics?

My buddy in Portland made a backpack from old billboard vinyl. That stuff is basically indestructible and totally waterproof. Have you seen other projects using leftover industrial materials?

But isn't there a big comfort problem with these stiff materials? That tent coat sounds cool, but I'd worry it's like wearing a crunchy tarp all day. Waterproof vinyl for a backpack might not breathe at all, making your back sweaty. Sometimes the normal fabrics exist for a good reason.
