My grandma's recipe box got soaked in a basement flood last spring

We thought we lost her handwritten card for the lemon pound cake she made every Easter in Akron. My aunt managed to save it, but the ink had run on the part about the glaze. We spent a whole afternoon trying to remember if it was 2 cups of powdered sugar or 2 and a quarter, and calling cousins to compare notes. Has anyone else had to piece together a recipe from memory after something like that?

That "calling cousins to compare notes" part is so real. We had to do that with my grandpa's chili recipe after a kitchen fire. You never realize how much you rely on those little cards until they're gone.

Seems like a lot of fuss over some sugar.
