Shoutout to the cast iron pan that outlasted my marriage

My grandma gave me her 1940s Wagner skillet 3 years ago when I moved to Austin. Last week I used it to cook dinner for my ex and realized that pan has seen more loyalty than either of us ever showed. Anyone else got a family piece that's quietly outlasted people?

That line about the pan seeing more loyalty than either of you showed really hit home. I got my dad's old Lodge after he passed, and it's been through two of my relationships and a cross-country move. Meanwhile my ex-wife couldn't even commit to splitting the bills evenly for a year. It's wild how a hunk of iron holds up better than people do sometimes. There's something almost sad about it, but also kind of comforting knowing that one solid thing in your life isn't going anywhere. Good for you for keeping the skillet, it'll be around for the next chapter too.

Come on, people aren't cast iron skillets. Your ex-wife probably had her reasons for not wanting to split bills evenly, maybe she was struggling or had different priorities. You can't expect a person to be as unchanging and unfeeling as a hunk of metal. Relationships are messy and people grow and change, that's not the same as being disloyal.
