My great-granddad's pocket watch died after I wound it too hard. Any chance to bring it back?
I inherited this old silver pocket watch from my great-grandfather, who got it in the 1920s. It always worked fine, with a soft tick that I loved. Last Sunday, I was winding it up like usual, but I got carried away and turned the key way too many times. There was a tiny snap noise, and now it's completely silent. The hands won't move at all. This watch has been in my family for almost a hundred years, and I feel horrible for messing it up. I took it to a jewelry store, but they said the inside might be broken beyond easy repair. Does anyone know a trustworthy place that fixes really old watches like this?

Ugh, overwinding probably snapped the old mainspring. You need a real watchmaker who can actually fabricate parts for stuff this old, not just swap batteries. That's a specialty search for "horologist" or "antique watch repair" in your area.

Snapped mainspring sounds serious, but is it really?
