Grandma's cast iron skillet from 1947 still going strong
I pulled out my grandmother's old cast iron skillet last week to make cornbread, and it's still as good as the day she got it in '47. My mom taught me how to season it right with bacon grease, so the patina is perfect. Anyone else hold onto old cookware from their family?

Read somewhere that old cast iron actually has a smoother surface than modern ones because they used to grind them down by hand. Bet that's part of why your grandma's skillet still cooks so even.

Grandma's old skillet is a thing of beauty, that's for sure. I've got one that belonged to my mother-in-law and it's like glass on the inside compared to my newer pans. You can really feel the difference when you're cooking eggs or pancakes.
